Shaykh Fawzan was asked:
"There is a group that calls themselves the people of "Jarh Wa' Ta'deel" (praising/criticising) or the "Salafis". And their main occupation is searching for the mistakes of Shaykh's and Callers; and follow that up with making Tabdee' of them (calling innovator) and warning from them.
Shaykh Fawzan answers:
"Jarh wa Ta’dee| is with the Muhaditheen (Hadith Scholars) and it is from the knowledge of the Isnaad (Hadith Chains). As for speaking about people, this is not Jarh wa Ta'deel, rather this is backbiting and tale carrying.
So they must repent to Allah the Mighty and Majestic and abandon this act. They should purify their own selves first; before they look at the flaws of the people.
