As Quran and authentic hadith contains virtues of scholars, it also contains warning of the prophet from the misguided and stray scholars:
۩ Abu Dhar said, "I was with the Prophet ﷺ one day and I heard him saing: “There is something I fear for my Ummah than the Dajjal.”
It was then that I became afraid, so I said: 'Oh Rasool Allah! Which thing is that?" He ﷺ said, “Misguided and astray scholars.”
Musnad Imam Ahmad, hadith - 21334 aur 21335. Shaykh Shu'ayb al Arna'ut graded it sahih li ghayri (authentic due to corroborating narrations) in his tahqiq of the Musnad Imam Ahmad.
۩ Thawban narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “I only fear for my Ummah from the misguiding A'immah.”
He (narrator) said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There will never cease to be a group from my Ummah manifest upon the truth, they will not be harmed by those who forsake them until Allah's Decree comes."
Sunan Tirmizi, Kitab al Fitan (33), hadith - 2229. Classed as Sahih by Shaykh Zubair ali zai.
